The Joint Forces Command (Malay: Markas Angkatan Bersama-MK AB) is a joint military command which specifically formed to commanding all tasks of the Malaysian Armed Forces joint operations. The Joint Operations are other operations performed by at least three services such as Malaysian Army, Royal Malaysian Navy and the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

This command which currently led by Commander in Chief, Admiral Dato' Jamil Bin Haji Osman of RMN serves as the commanding the operations is responsible for planning and implementing all the joint operations, possibly to be commons, joint exercises and Multi-National Operations, such as the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions. With the current warfare scenario, require a permanent headquarters to planning and coordinate all the joint operations.

As a base command, MKAB not have its own armed fleet. MKAB will receive a column of three services in accordance with the mission to be carried out. The Assigned concept has been adopted by the MAF to carry out joint operations with the full cooperation of all services. MAFs are very proud to provide the Joint Task Force for any military duties to ensure the sovereignty of Malaysia and other assignments both locally and overseas.

History

Establishment of MK AB

The history of the Joint Forces Command began when the proposal for its establishment was approved by the Board of the Minister met on April 20, 2004 and 361st Commander-Chief of the Committee Meeting at June 16, 2004. Hence the proposed establishment of the headquarters was taken to the 340th Armed Forces Council Meeting on July 26, 2004 and approved. Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister for Defence has recommended it immediately launched with the designation, the existing personnel in the MAF.

MK AB was launched by DPM cum Minister of Defence on September 6, 2004 and is designed to meet the needs of the establishment of a Joint Force Command Headquarters (MK PAB) in the ad hoc form before the Paper Work Establishment submitted to the federal agencies. At that time, The Chief of Staff of Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters, Admiral Dato 'Ramlan Bin Mohamed Ali, was appointed concurrently the post Commander of Chief (CoC) from September 6, 2004 by an ad hoc basis .

Throughout the years MK AB in an ad hoc basis , many challenges had to encountered especially in terms of staffing, has created the difficulties in the execution of tasks. Thus, the ad hoc organization was temporarily suspended (August 05) until re-established on Dec 1 2006. Chief of MAF Staff, Lieutenant-General Datuk Hj Shahron bin Hj Ibrahim RMAF (at that time) was appointed to post CoC. The establishment at this time more focused on the existence of a permanent constitution and the establishment of a headquarters that is responsible for handling its own operations more robust.

To determine the MKAB designation can be realized, MAF Headquarters through the Defence Planning Division, which was then headed by Major General Dato' Allatif Bin Mohd Noor was giving the effort to obtain permanent employment. Through these efforts, and with the support of Chief of Defence Force, the organization has been approved by the Public Service Department, officially on July 16, 2007. [1]

After the MK AB organization was officially established, Chief of Staff of MAF Headquarters has passing the CoC tasks to Major General Dato' Allatif Bin Mohd Noor. The personnel for the first CoC in particular was appointed on October 1, 2007. With a total strength of 312 officers and personnels, this command has been carrying out the tasks entrusted by the Jointness concept which is three services is designed to perform its functions more effectively in assisting the Chief of the Armed Forces in terms of governance and control operations at the highest levels of MAF.

MK AB serves as the operational level of command responsible for planning and implementing all the joint operation, which is likely to be a potentially joint, the combined operation and such multinational security operations under the charter of the Organization of the United Nations ( UN). In addition, the headquarters is also responsible for implementing all the Joint Training/Exercise.

The MK AB motto is Campaigning Together, Compaigning (Malay: Berjuang Bersama, Berjuang) means compete, to achieve or exceed any way compete with the energy (strength or power) to the parties or elements that may harm him or against him. However, TOGETHER means together, working, simultaneously, all of them and all.

Ops PASIR

Following the invasion and the kidnapping of the island resorts in the eastern Sabah waters by foreign elements, matching operation was launched on April 29, 2000. A section of army troops has been placed on the island of Sipadan to protecting the island from the abuse threat as well as assisting the Royal Malaysian Police in the enforcement of law and security. The Cabinet which met on 13 September 2000 had ordered army troops deployed to all islands and resort in eastern Sabah waters. This operation was called Operation Pandanan And Sipadan Island Resort to replacing the post operations taking stands locations incidence of kidnappings that occurred Pandanan And Sipadan Island Resort. Accordingly, the Cabinet has decided the National Security Division at Putrajaya to creating the Operations Coordination Ops PASIR at the Sabah State to coordinate the action taken by the various enforcement agencies including the Armed Forces (ATM) in overcoming the threat of said. With the launch of Operation PASIR on September 18, 2000, Malaysian Army has put members on several islands, the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) has been carrying out over time maritime patrols and the Royal Malaysia Air Force (Force (RMAF) has been carrying out patrols in the air from time to time and commissioned a helicopter detachment.

The operations was dissolved on July 31, 2003 in which no further streamline operations by NSD. The 374th Commander-Chief of the Committee meeting at March 15, 2006 has the responsibility to implement the Operatoin PASIR under the Joint Task Force Command 2 (ATB 2) as a security to the operation. Since the launch of Operation PASIR on September 18, 2000, army troops have occupied 21 islands in 19 settlements involving an infantry battalions and control headquarters located at Sri Wangsa Camp, Semporna. On Oct 15, 2001, after the Operations PASIR Review Meeting held been taken in the Area Responsibility was divided into two main sectors of the Northern Sector and Southern Sector. This decision involved the addition of another infantry battalion where a battalion is responsible for guarding 10 islands in the north of the headquarters of control on the island statue, Sandakan. While another battalion headquarters where control remained in the Semporna occupy 10 islands in the Southern Sector. Currently, the Constitutional Court has set the motion ATB 2 TD troops occupy and dominate the strategic placement of 31 of 22 placements in 20 countries and 9 island settlements off the coast.

Roles

The roles of MK AB as an Operational Level Command is responsible for planning and executing all the Joint Operation, which is likely to be a Potentially Joint operation, the combined operation, integrated operations and multinationals such as operations under the UN Charter.

Functions

  1. As an Operational Headquarters is responsible for command, control and manage Assigned Forces to undertake of the Joint / Combined operations.
  2. Plan and implement integration forces exercises for assigned forces for the purpose of Joint / Combined operating.
  3. Establish Situational Awareness for Joint / Combined operations.
  4. Formulate and update the doctrine and the Standing Operation Procedure (SOP) of Joint Warfare.
  5. Planning and implementation of all the Joint Bilateral and multilateral levels.
  6. Deployed and administered all military personnels who perform duties under the charter of the Association of the United Nations (UN).
